Day 1

Today was my first day working at Selfridges. My train was late (shocker) so I didn't arrive until 11:00. The space already looked pretty good even in it's messy unfinished state, the pink fences and the checkerboard dance floor are pretty impressive. Throughout the day I helped out with a couple of jobs, I covered a few seat covers with fetching barbie fabric and I also covered 2 doorways in fake flowers and cuddly toys which looked kind of freaky with their heads poking out. The papered lanterns were added throughout the day and look really good as you enter the room. I'm really looking forward to doing my article I think it will be really entertaining and I think the pictures will be really good as the room is so heavily decorated everywhere you look. Epic amounts of paper were used today this room is definitely a shrine to paper.

Spray Painting Master

My outfit has progressed quite a lot since the other day, I have finished paper macheing my skirt and have spray painted my top. I am so pleased the spray painting didn't go wrong as that was my main concern, however it looks really good. Also I desided to add some hearts on the back so it wasn't so plain. The skirt is not finished yet I still want to paint over it like the bag I made and possibly spray paint over it too.

Outfit

So my main priority at the moment is my outfit. So I have made myself a bag and skirt out of calico and I plan to tea stain, paper mache, paint and spray paint them. I started with the bag as a sort of tester to see how it looked. I have used tea stained pages from alice in wonderland as I had loads left over from a project in first year and I didn't really like the look of the newspaper. I also plan to spray paint I Heart Paper on the front of a tshirt, however my spray painting skills do need to be slightly improved, however I quite like the fuzzy spray look.

Situations

  • Morning wake up - alarm going off (shock)
  • Getting dress/made over - close up of makeup/hair
  • On the tube - peoples reaction (laughing/happy/making fun)
  • Arriving into Selfridges - outside/on escalator (excited for the day)
  • Day tasks - meeting public, doing activities, yelling at 'employees' (angry) checking work
  • Lunch/break - sitting alone, doing paperwork (lonely/tired/bored)
  • More day tasks - getting changed, meeting zoe & andrea
  • Home - train home/opening door to house (sleepy/hungry/relaxed)
  • Bed - watching tv/reading a book/checking emails

I will be following The Girls round for 2 days made to look like one. This will allow for more interesting things to happen and a meatier article. I think it will be funny seeing peoples reaction to The Girls on the tube etc..

Layout

Here is a layout from Patches magazine about a day in the life of Peter Paul. Now I have no idea who Peter Paul is however the article is from the 80's and shows me what my day in the life of could look like. Also it's good to see what the tone and sort of words they use in the 80's journals. It's quite informal, short sentences and has parts specifically aimed at the reader. After talking to Zoe she said that they would get someone to lay my article out for me so it fits in more with the style of the magazine. This has taken a lot of responsibility off me however I might use this layout from Patches for my own if for whatever reason my article doesn't get laid out or doesn't get into the magazine.
